2007 Winton Valley SAY Annual Report
Submitted to the Winton Valley SAY Board, January 3rd, 2008, and approved by the Board

Spring 2007

  • Conducted first Area-wide participation in spring soccer season

  • Teams from Greenhills, Wyoming, Woodlawn and Reading all participated in spring season jointly from Winton Valley for first time. 

  • Older divisions participated in interplay at SAY North; due to confusion regarding age bracketing, problems ensued, resulting in the forfeiting of one team’s season. Board leadership has addressed for forthcoming spring season.

  • Referee training held for a dozen new referees in Wyoming.

  • Voluntary Coaches Training conducted by Vince Weseli. 

Summer 2007

  • Continued tradition of Area Coaches Clinics. At Board’s recommendation, sessions were mandatory for all Area coaches.

  • Coaches Training conducted with Neil Bradford, SAY National Coaching Director.

  • Near unanimous participation in sessions across Area.  Supplemental session held for coaches who could not attend earlier sessions.

  • Referee training once again conducted for new and returning referees.

  • Continued affiliation with STAR Soccer Club for intra-Area training sessions. 4 sessions were held across the Area with over 50 children participating. 

 Fall 2007

  • Over 430 games held amongst 88 teams, with approximately 1,000 participating players, each team participating in a 10 game season. All games conducted internal to the area.  Total number of teams remained flat versus 2006 -- this despite trending decrease in youth population across Winton Valley Area.

  • Winton Valley State tournament held over the weekends of October 13 in October 20 at Kemper Meadow in Forest Park. 51 of the 52 eligible teams participated in the tournament.  The six Gold bracket participants advanced to SAY State tournament.

  • Boys and Girls Kickers finals were held in St. Bernard, under the lights, with a scoreboard and an in-game announcer.  Winton Valley Boys Kickers team finished in third place in the state.

  • SAY PassersFest held on the weekend on of October 20 at two locations, Finneytown and Greenhills.  Awards were presented to all players at the post-session Parade of Champions.

Other Updates

  • New board membership joined from Greenhills, Forest Park, and rejoined from Hartwell.

  • New Area Referee Coordinator, Karen Kremzar, was elected to the Board.

  • Board agreed to pay a $50 stipend for Area membership to assure Area financial solvency.

  • Revamped and expanded Winton Valley SAY website, which now includes sections on Area Board membership, Calendar, Game Conduct and Area Rules, Fall Tournament and PassersFest information, information on the State tournament, and link to Red Carded coaches and Players. 

  • Joint Board and SAY National Contribution to the Casey Strotman Scholarship Fund for the total of $690. 

  • Full Board Meetings were held on the following dates:
